Full/Classic distance.
I entered this triathlon in 2016, unprepared for the waves, finished through shear stubbornness, said "never again".....two days later...."well, maybe again, if I prepare for the sea swim better".
I entered 2017 shortly before the course sold out.
On the day, the sea was fantastic, so so calm. Loved the swim, and banished my swim demons from the previous year. The beach is beautiful, and swimming along the beach, just 50m out, means it is friendly for those who are a little nervous (it's what kept me going in 2016, knowing I COULD head in to land if I really couldn't cope). But also great for fast swimmers too.
The bike is challenging as 60km not the usual 40km, but it is not TOO hilly - lots of rolling ups and downs - and only two right hand turns to navigate, which were well-marshalled. The road surface is surprisingly very good for such a rural area.
The run is pretty unique if you are used to road races. I'm not a good runner, but the trail run keeps your mind off the pain a bit!
Transition is good, and car parking, if you arrive early enough is right on site.
I'm going to try other events in the Adventure series now, but might return to the Sandman in future.
Thoroughly recommend this one, and Always Aim High are just great.
