Great event. Lots of good things but with two gripes. 1. There were not enough Marshalls on the roads and this was with a shortened distance. There were a number of crossroad junctions unstaffed and crossing them felt risky. These were open roads. 2. There were not enough road signs at points which made you wonder if you were going the wrong way at times. 3. Weather. Sorry. It’s Galway. Just come prepared for rain, wind and sun. :) Good stuff 1. Swim - super safe. Lake. Great markings. Great safety canoes. Not at whims of sea. 2. Run - lovely run. Forest. All good. 3. Smaller than say IM- less congestion. Less wait time. Great parking. Short walks. Short transitions. Easy entry and exit on the day. Found local accommodation no problem. 4. Good aid stations-water, precision fuel etc… 5. Good vibe.
Thanks for the detailed feedback, Jonathan — really glad to hear you enjoyed the swim, the run, and the overall vibe of the event! We’re especially pleased the easy logistics helped make the day smoother for you. We also really appreciate you highlighting the areas for improvement. Road safety is a top priority, and your comments about marshalling and signage are noted — we’ll definitely be reviewing both as we plan for next year. And yes… the Galway weather is always part of the challenge! Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience — hope to see you back in 2026! - Castle Race Series
