← Vale of York Half Marathon

As usual from Even Splits, a well-organised event.

I arrived in plenty of time (8am) for a 9.30am start.  I thought I might have to queue for a while to collect my race number, but walked straight up to the desk with no queues. Toilets were all empty then too.  There's a cafe serving refreshments on site so that was somewhere warm to shelter (although the post-race bacon buttie was, at £3.50, a bit overpriced - not the fault of race organisers of course)

The race is through quiet country lanes and is flat except for a small incline over a railway bridge out and back. I gave the on-course local support a 3 out of 5 above. That's not a criticism, but there are only three or four points around the course where spectators gather. I don't mind the peace and quiet, but if you prefer added stimulus or encouragement, perhaps take music (which plenty of people did).  Marshals were fantastic on what must have been quite a chilly day to stand around. Thanks as always. The finish within the aero club is well supported though.

Water stations well stocked and no problems.

A nice finish into the aero club, though the actual finish line is hidden around a blind corner so you can't see it until you are there, so difficult to judge your sprint finish (if you still have anything left!)

Appreciated the post-race massage, and a nice t shirt, goodie bag and bling.

If you don't want the hassle of GNR logistics, Vale of York Half provides a wonderful, flat alternative. I will look to run again next year.
