The good: pleasant place to run, lots of greenery and nice views. Not a crowded course, definitely one for PB attempters, good to have the option NOT to get the shirt (as lots of us have drawers full of them), pleasant and helpful marshalls on the course., quick response when contacted. The not-so-good: the parking and road closure situation is not great and could be improved as it is difficult to get to the start in good time, given these closures and the inevitable queues. There's no deferral option on this event: I was able to run in the end, but it was touch and go as I got injured beforehand, and it would have put my mind at rest to have that choice. No loos at all on the course! This had a detrimental effect on me and I'm sure on other runners. Long queue at the end for the medal, which is identical to last year's - it's great to have a date at least to mark when you did the run.

This is a great local race, flat and well set-up. It's not got a whole lot of character - more a race for running, than sightseeing! But the marshalls and other runners are friendly. The incredibly long queue at the end needs to be worked on, and some of the professional traffic management team were acting a bit authoritarian, given the road had NOT been closed yet when we drove through at 8am! Please tell them to relax and chill a bit next year, as runners are arriving!

My first time doing this event and it was very enjoyable. The route starts from the airfield and then you enter country lanes right up until the last couple of hundred metres, where you come back into the airfield. The route was well marshalled and they were encouraging throughout. If you are PB hunting then this is definitely a place to go. It flat, fast and easy to plot your way around. The medal was nice and the T-shirt is one of my favourite designs. The only slight issue was getting off the airfield after the event. It took a long time, but safety had to come first as they couldn't release cars until all the runners had finished. If they could find a better way of doing this in the future it would help the event. I'm not sure if there is more than one way in and out to the airfield to prevent cars and runners coming into contact. Overall a good event.

1st time at the Vale of York Half Marathon for us. Entered the Vale of York Half as my wife wanted to do her first half marathon and we heard it was a flat course, scenic and a good race. We weren’t disappointed. Online entry was simple and a few info emails leading up to the day with all the necessary information. Easy to find the location and parking was easy. Picking up our numbers was quick and straightforward. Usual queues for the loos but good idea to have separate gents urinals units. It’s the simple, small things. Starting the race on a runway was different and good. The route was run on closed flat country roads which was great. Felt safe and you had loads of space to run. 3 water only stations on route which were fine. On route support was very limited. Some at the start/finish from friends and family. On the course it was only at road junctions from a few spectators and marshals. Lots of free photos online but take a bit of finding and searching through. Good tech tee, medal, water and chocolate bar at the finish. There was a cafe and massage station in the event village but we didn’t have a look at these. Exiting the car park was a bit of an issue for many people but an email from the organisers the next day explained the problems, many were not their fault. We took a picnic for after the run. Enjoyed that, watching people leave. Half an hour later it took us about five minutes to leave the site. Overall, a great flat and fast run, scenic and well organised. Would recommend and definitely do again.

Vale Of York HM is a great road race. Fast & flat, this really is a PB chaser’s dream. Starting & finishing at Sherburn Aero club the route takes runners along smooth tarmac country roads that were closed to traffic. There were 3x water stations. Finishers received a nice medal & a great quality tech shirt. There was a slight hold up in car parks afterwards but it didn’t spoil my day. I’ll be back next year for sure. Thanks to organisers & especially the marshalls. In summary.... Highs: A PB chasers dream. Lows: Access isn’t easy particularly those using public transport. Bottom Line: Fast course, nice medal. A race that I highly recommend.

Vale Of York Half Marathon will always have a special place in my heart as 3years ago, it was the first half marathon I every ran. Thing which attracted me to this race was it's super flat course - perfect for those looking to up the distance. Race location was at Sherburn Aero Club. A change this year with the race starting on the main runway. This meant strict rules on car parking with for safety reasons, cars not allowed to leave the venue until 12 noon - more on that later. There was a good atmosphere in and around race HQ. Baggage deposit/collection was quick, easy and trouble-free. Number collection was a bit slow with quite long queues. Toilets were also busy. This resulted in a 10 minute delay to the start of the race. As mentioned earlier, the race was fast, flat and on excellent surfaces. Starting on the runway, it looped back on itself before venturing out into the countryside and then back to the finish line at the Areo club. It was a nice, scenic run but nature of the course meant local support was quite sparse. There were 3 water stations in total. These contained bottled water but no other nutrition. Finishers received an ok medal and a bag containing smart finishers shirt, bar of chocolate and leaflets. There was massage options available both before and after the race. Post-race atmosphere was very good with many people celebrating fast finish times. This course is a PB chasers dream. Leaving the venue was messy with traffic taking an age to get moving. We must have been waiting in the car park well over 45 minutes after the promised 12 noon leaving time. This meant a lot of frustrated people. Once we did get going, the traffic moved quite smoothly. In summary - I can't recommend Vale of York enough. It is perfect for those stepping up distance and is a chance to smash a great time for the more seasoned runner. Race was very good value with a nice medal and super finishers shirt. Marshals were absolutely brilliant. They're heroes in my eyes. Operation wasn't quite as slick as previous years, with longer queues for some reason. The car parking situation was a bit of a pain but I hope people aren't too critical. The organisers will look at feedback and make next years race even better. Thank you for a brilliant day. This is a race I will always look to do.

Great value for money - fast course with nice goody bag. Closed roads make it safe. Would benefit from a bit more organisation at the start as unknowingly I ended up too far back and needing to pass plenty of people in the first 1k. The finish was obscured by buildings so I was fortunate I trusted the distance markers for the spiny finish. PB achieved.

Fast Flat Course great for a new PB, statred on the airfield, a smaller race so lts of space. Only slight issue was after 200 metres soeone dropped a £5 then stopped mid pack and tried to run back to collect, in a busy start that was a no no and lead to collisions. However once out on the course a socila smaller run, easy to naviage and a plenty of oppurnity to set a faster pace. Would recommend for anyone wanting a new pb, and had my favourite finishers t shirt.
