After being on holiday last year I missed the first Grimsby 10k & after hearing good stories about it I made sure I wasn't missing this one.
The start was a little disorganised & it was a basic free forall no matter what your abilities or expected times. This didn't prrove to be much of a problem as the runners soon spaced out after the start.
The biggest shock for me was the amount of people out on the streets cheering you on & the number of marshalls on the course. We aren't obviously talking London marathon crowds but this is little old Grimsby & it certainly was a noisy well attended event by the crowd.
The course is almost a loop from the town centre out towards the edge of town back on the main road & finish at a park which is not the most exciting but then again there are not many exciting places in Grimsby to look at anyway (Even the football team play in Cleethorpes).
My time was ok around the 41 minute 30 second mark & the finish was well organised & a good medal & T-Shirt on completion.
My views are that this event will only grow in size & any initial teething problems will be ironed out. To have something like this locally is fantastic & the organisers deserve huge praise for arranging this.
I've already put next years date in the diary.
