← Leicester 10K

When taking part in a maiden race, I often approach the event with some caution but I didn't need that for the inaugural Run For All - Leicester 10k.

Held in the centre of Leicester at Abbey Park, there were many car parking places as advertised on the race website. After avoiding some of the closed roads I parked up and walked around 10 minutes to the park where everything was well set out. It was easy to locate the baggage lorry and there were a number of toilets available including separate urinals for men to help speed up queuing times.

The starting pens were clearly set out and there was constant information relayed over the loud and effective speaker system. This would come in handy as they had to delay the start for 10 minutes to complete the setting up of the course, nothing too major and at least us runners were kept updated.

The race started at 9:10am and had a number of pacers with run visible running times on display. The course was fairly flat and meandered through the streets of Leicester with a handful of spectators on show. The event was well marshalled and I felt safe during the whole run. There were water stops at 3k and 7k and my only negative view (which is me being very picky) was the positioning of the bins to dispose the water bottles in. They were quite close to the tables which meant a very quick gulp of water before throwing a half full/empty bottle away.

The finish line was full of supporters and there was lots of encouragement from the speaker system again. Water and energy drinks were offered and collection of goody bags was swift. The goody bag included a t-shirt, medal and a number of protein items, certainly worth the entry fee. If you wanted, you could personalise your medal with your time and date for free which looked a popular choice from many participants. Collection of my own bag was very speedy as well which is always a positive after a race.

Overall, I felt this race was very successful and the organisers should feel proud with their event. I look forward to returning next year.
