← York 10K

This year, yes I did. ANd given the heat fair play to anybody running in fancy dress.

The York 10k is always popular and today didn't fall short of expectations. Okay let's start with the boring, yet important stuff. Getting to the event is easy. I caught the train from Leeds. No problem. If you are driving it's probably the best (FREE) parking of any event I've been too. Although the route map on the website is a bit confusing.

Amenities at the event are good. This year they had the usual massage tent, event office and food stalls... yes, burgers and chips! The bag drop is excellent. Incredibly fast and easy to spot.

Now the down side. The toilets. Nowhere nearly enough. I joined the queue (stupidly) at 9.05 and just made it to the front by 9.30. This meant I was late to my starting point which meant the crowds were bad. This is a reasonably fast course as its flat, however it is full of twists and turns and getting into a decent rhythm is tough. However the support is amazing and there is plenty to see en route including the minster. This year they decided to put drink stations at 3 and 7k! I have no idea why and everybody I spoke to found this an odd decision.

Overall this is a wonderful race. Would I come back... absolutely.
