The race its self is fun route, two water stations and plenty of marshals. There are some narrow bits and with this being a popular race lots of congestion. Nice goodie bag and medal at the end. The diversion in the city is a joke, whilst I’m laughing about it now I wasn’t at the time, it simply takes you back out to the A64 roundabout where you are met with a sign saying diversion ends!!! That’s not a diversion, that’s just getting rid of all the cars out of the immediate area of the race course. The queues on the A64 were ridiculous, by the time I had got there and parked the race had already started.
On leaving the carpark which took a good 20 minutes, the marshal insisted cars in the left lane turned left to drive the long way around the race track but then to be met by another marshal and a road closed sign, residents in the housing estate I bet were not happy as the roads were blocked up with cars everywhere, many of the drivers with medals around their necks so clearly from the race. I chose to spin around and go back the way I originally wanted to although the traffic was awful. Sadly due to the very lengthy ordeal in getting to and from the race, this is my first and last York 10k.
