← Bewl 15

I had a very bad experience of this race. In all honesty I wish I hadn't done it.

I live life in the last lane, I'm used to it. I'm slow, I enjoy the scenery. Bewl water is stunning! It was a glorious day to really appreciate such a beautiful part of Tunbridge Wells.

That's really where my happiness ends. I was still physically and emotionally tired after RTTK the previous weekend, and ended up walking a substantial amount of the course, with intermittent running.

At some point during the course I was deemed a walker without any discussion. I don't normally like to complain, however this also lead to the sweeper overtaking myself and a friend. This sweeper subsequently started to take down the route markings. It wasn't until my friend and I went over a mile off course toward a farm that we realised we had gone off route, by over a mile.

I rang my other friend who tried to ask marshalls at the finish line for help. No one knew where we were. After a long discussion it was decided someone would come and collect us, as after over 14 miles we were not going to traverse the mile back to the missed unmarked turning to complete the last mile or so. When our rescue marshalls were on route to us, they also got lost.

It was a pleasure to see Dame Kelly Holmes start the event off, however her involvement created a surge in participants. The organisers were I'll prepared for this, meaning that many went home without a their t-shirt or medal. It is still unclear when participants will receive either of these.

I can honestly say I will not be doing this event again. I know I'm slow, but do not tho k I need to be punished.

Hi Catherine, First or last place we as the organisers of Bewl 15 want everyone to have an amazing time, and we clearly failed on this occasion and can only offer our apologies. Bewl 15 is a beautiful race however the heat, distance and the steep hills at the end can be a challenge for anyone. Bewl 15 this year had a last minute surge of entrants (around 300 runners) 2 days before the event, and this caught us off guard. All runners who completed the race and didn't receive a medal/T-shirt have had their details taken and will be sent these. Thank you for your review and I really hope we can change your mind for next year. James - Wadhurst Runners
