Organised by local Surrey outfit All About Tri, the inaugural Guildford 10K was an out and back course, run entirely on closed roads starting and finishing in Guildford town centre.

For debut race, the Guildford 10K proved popular with several thousand runners rising for the exceptionally early - for an Autumn race - start of 8:00 in the morning.

Despite the crack of dawn hour, the High Street had a real pre race buzz to it with a few marquees and pre race photo shoots going on to provide a good distraction. Bag drop was situated in the Guildhall and was quick and simple enough.

Runners were split into three teams, turquoise, pink or orange which you chose before the race and were allocated a coloured buff depending on your allegiance. Race numbers and buffs were collected the day before the race at a local gym.

The route was a straight out and back run, undulating on roads and a little uninspiring but there was a DJ about a third of the way in. There was an aid station at the 5K mark distributing water in cups. Local crowd support was scattered but evident and mostly in the centre near the race start/finish area.

At £30.00 with Racecheck discount, this is expensive for a 10K and the course was a dull affair. Being the first race, this might improve in future years.

The medal is decent though and the goody bag gave the appearance of a Champneys gift bag.
