This was my first Olympic distance tri and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Everyone was super friendly,  welcoming and helpful. From the organisation to during the event,  even the superbly placed ice cream van at the finish.

I found the swim somewhat refreshing,  the mere really is lovely.  Easily visibly buoys,  plenty of support if needed and an easy to navigate loop.

Moving onto the bike,  this was tougher than I thought but the scenery was just stunning, so much so it was a lovely distraction from racing mood to just enjoyment. Very well signposted with regular marshal posts and bike support to check on you.  Felt safe all the way round.

Next the run.  This was a hilly,  challenging course.  With jelly legs the hill on the first section is challenging on lap 1, but took gritting determination to not walk on lap 2. I loved the sections through the woods where there is lots of support from the crowds,  all the way to the finish.

Overall a great experience and will be back to do again.

If you're like me and fret about needing the loo you'll be pleased to know there are dedicated loos for competitors inside transition that have very little queues.
