Shropshire Olympic 2023 Just to add to other reviews….. Parking not great and driving is the only realistic option. Beautiful mere for swim - shame we couldn’t do it due to algae. Is it a regular problem here? Cycle route lovely and not too challenging but quality of road in parts was SHOCKING. Actually knocked a wheel onto the brakes - thought I was slow! Bit dangerous on open roads to be swerving out regularly. Run ok seemed uphill both ways, needed more water. Thought the goodies at the end were hugely underwhelming. Overall wouldn’t exclude doing it again, lovely town lovely mere, registration and transition good, friendly crowd, good for all levels.

Good points -friendly atmosphere, beautiful location including the bike course, good communication pre-race including the pre-race change of plan to duathlon due to algae, safety in checking for the blue-green algae and cancelling the swim, regular drink stations on the hot run, paper cups for drinks and plenty of bins Good that transition didn't close at any point. Bad points - felt poor value given no snacks at all at the end, not even a piece of orange, which would have been welcomed in the heat. Basically nothing in the goody bag- a sachet of porridge, small snack bar and a gel. Happy not to pay for yet another t-shirt but, when I feel like I have paid for one in the entry, would like one or something similar value. Organisation at the start line felt amateurish, no clear announcement (or not that I heard) that the women's olympic distance was in that start group, as I expected to be. Lots of chat from the starter about the relay. Had to check with other competitors if anyone else was there for the olympic distance. Roads poor condition and traffic impatient -not the organisers fault, swim cancelled as above -again, glad it was but people considering the event should be aware this seems to be a regular problem. Results not out yet(4pm), it's only been a few hours but these days they're usually almost instant.

In this review chat, you have sent me a link to the wrong results, which is the same on your site and this is NOT for our race.

This is my 3rd year at Shropshire, opting to try the sprint distance to check out the alternate cycle route. An event I've loved everytime I've undertaken it. There is challenge with the hills, but we don't do triathlons for them to be easy. Great support from locals, spectators, crew and other competitors. Perfectly set up for serious competitors, first timers and those wanting to just push themselves. Will I be back, more than likely 😉

Really well organised, great Marshalls, great transition area, potholes all signed and highlighted, all well thought out. However for me at least the frustration came when I tried to find the results on line - here we are 24 hours after the event and the uktriathlon website still says 'No files found'!! What a pity, after an otherwise great event I will have to mark this experience down until the results are published!
