← Vitality London 10,000

By my standard, this was a fairly short notice entry and I arrived really looking forward to running in the capital, which I hadn't done before.  After meeting up for the obligatory Rachcheck Visor Club photo, I had a little while to wait as I wasn't off until the orange wave, the penultimate one. A fair number of people in the earlier waves were expressing concern that the bag drop was taking ages to open. By the time I got there a pretty lengthy queue had formed and people were being held back from entering the baggage area.  Marshals had loud speakers, but they weren't loud enough to hear, made worse by many of them pointing their speakers towards the sky!  In the end I got in and dropped my bage without a further issue and made my way to the start pens. I say pens, but upon arrival it was a complete free-for-all. Very few marshals in site, no division of the different colur areas, even the announcer gave up and addressed a multi-coloured wave. I thought I was in the right place for orange, but it turned out I was in grey, the last wave.  The start is deliberately narrowed, according to the announcer to 'make sure everyone can go through the start running', but this seemed to add to the delay.  The course itself is quite tight, with lots of twists and turns, particularly in the first few km. This meant it was difficult to get into a running stride as the breaks needed to be applied as people cut across in front of you. Unfortunately there were quite a few runners with very few manners who used elbows and shoved otherd to get through half gaps and in some cases pushed through gaps that weren't there. It seemed that there were far too many people on the course for the route.  Apart from this, it was nice to run in central London on closed roads and the time went quicjkly as I was running with a friend.  The finish was slightly betyter organised than the start as we were directed into the medal and TShirt collection area. I have heard of problems with them running out of medals and finishers' bags, but didn't experience this personally.  The TShirt is good quality and the medal is nice.  Overall, this event is extremely expensive and didn't have the same slick organisation present at a lot of large events. It is extremely expensive for what you get - £35 to enter, even as an 'early-bird' and and an eye-watering £14.95 for a single photo (£44.95 if you want them all!).  It's not an event I am likely to attend again in the future.
