· 2019 Half Marathon ·

This is the second year I have run the Gatwick Half Marathon. The event village had improved from the first year with a larger selection of refreshment stands and entertainment making an already good event village great. I was part of the “Visorclub” who benefited from the Fasttrack bag drop and reclaim which lived up to the name, no queues and speedy service.

There is plenty of parking close to the race village but some can be difficult to get to due to road closures, plan ahead and arrive early.

There were a couple of areas on the actual run which could be improved, the first water station was too short which made if difficult to get a bottle. The cones segregating the road on the perimeter of Gatwick Airport, approximately mile 5, could have been better placed. Some of them were not in line with the middle of the road and caused a few issues.

The route is mostly flat, small sharp hill aproaching mile 9 and an uphill finish. Great views of a few planes landing, time it right and they are directly overhead but watch out for the cones.

The Racemakers on the entire route offered fantastic support and encouragement.

It was great to have a Racecheck gazebo to meet up with the Visorclub family before and after the race to catch up over fantastic burgers from Meat the Chef and a glass of bubbles.

A great event and hope to come back next year
