This was a great half marathon, well organsied and a fairly unique course. The race was easy to register for and like all DB Max events, came with a lot of information in the week before to give you all you’d need to know. On the day, the volunteers were super friendly and helpful. The race village was well laid out and everything was where you’d expect it to be. The race number contained the timing chip and arrived in advance, complete with your name, which was a nice touch and meant there was no need to register once you’d arrived on site. The course is two laps, which initially concerned me, but on the day seemed to be fine. The route takes you around the spectacular Westonbirt House and then along the country lanes around the estate. It was an undulating course with some fairly long up and down hill sections. Some of the corners caused issues with oncoming cars trying to overtake runners, but there is little the organisers can do about this. The thing that surprised me the most was the steps that the runners had to negotiate, just 20 meters before the finish line. Im not sure why the line couldnt have been moved onto the grass to take the steps out of the equation, as i would imagine that they caused some competitors a few problems, particuarly with tired legs! The medal was fantastic and the support, particularly around the house was amazing. Overall, I would reccomend this race to others looking for a great regional event and a spring half marathon.
