← Lough Cutra Castle - Triathlon Series

Unfortunately early morning fog over the lake meant that even with a 2 hour + delay to see if it would clear, the swim had to be cancelled and the event reverted to a duathlon. I thought the wave send off for the runs worked really well in batches of runners 50-70 strong. This meant very little run congestion and even with starting in a later wave the early part of the bike was pretty free from congestion as well.

With the later start the roads did get a little busy compared to last year, but not surprising. Being a faster biker it did mean a few holdups with cars trying to pass slower riders on narrow roads but overall a pretty good ride even with the increased traffic, though to be honest still a lot less traffic than UK races.

The run course was in good condition throughout the run, though with the heat of the day some of the distance between water stations were a bit longer than ideal. There did seem to be one missing compared to 2015.

Overall a great race in a great location and I think the Castle Triathlon team did really well handling the delay and the cancellation of the Gauntlet swim
