This was my first ever marathon back in 2016, and I was looking forward to returning this year. It didn't get off to a great start with my race number not being sent out. I was told to collect it from the race office, they told me it was sent to the VIP section, they didn't have it.... They had to re-register me which meant I wasted time in the morning, and also that my number wasn't recognised so my wife was unable to track me around the route on the app! When I finally met with my friends on the start line - it was raining, and it got heavier! I know that the event company cannot control the weather, but it was awful. The more it rained, the colder it got. Thank goodness for the marshals handing out foil blankets. I was handed one at mile 18, and I think I may have quit if I didn't get one as I was so cold. At this point, I just wanted to finish, get home and get warm. Apart from the shocking weather and poor start to the day, the Yorkshire Marathon and Yorkshire 10 Mile are great events. It is a great route with fantastic crowds. I just want to end with saying a big thank you to the crowds lining the streets and the marshals - for standing out in the cold and rain all day, right to the end.
