Glorious Goodwood. As one half of a running family, the spectator requirements are as important if not more so than that for the runner. Its OK to be running for circa two hours but it would only be allowed to happen once if the spectators are getting cold, wet and fed up in the process. Fortunately, at Goodwood, due to the facilities, plenty of shelter and solid ground, the wait from the Children’s race at 9am until the start of the Half Marathon at midday was easily accomplished and we managed to stay warm and dry in the process. A great venue despite the atrocious conditions. There is plenty of parking then a short walk across the road to Goodwood then across the race track to the compact event village. Pop up shops were set up in the Pit garages and massage tables under the Main grandstand. The event was very well organised from start to finish with excellent communication to what was going on, this was vital as the start of the 10k and Half Marathon were halfway round the Lap. I completed the Half Marathon which was 5 ½ laps. I found running the laps more enjoyable than I though it would be with great support at the end of each lap and for the finish. The support on the remainder of the course was sparse except for the fantastic marshals who were all very enthusiastic and encouraging despite the terrible conditions. Water was available at the end of the pits on each lap and a superb medal, technical T-Shirt and goody bag when crossing the finish line. Some small tweaks for next year would be appreciated. Different medals for the Family Mile, 10k and Half Marathon. It would be possible to complete all three in the same day. A larger selection of food and drink stands. Sunshine. An excellent inaugural event. Would love to come back next year.
