I'd not done a lap race prior to this one and the venue was certainly a draw when I decided to book the race.

The race registration was easy and pre-race information was provided regularly and efficiently. There was plenty of free parking at the venue, but the walk to the race HQ felt a lot longer in the driving rain and strong wind that unfortunately arrived on the day.

The race HQ had a welcome shelter and the usual items available to peruse and buy if you wished to.  Bag drop was efficient and the race commentators kept us well informed as to when we were due to start, with other distance races also taking place on the day.

For the half marathon we had a freezing cold walk round to the other side of the track, but thankfully the rain had stopped by that point. As you run around the circuit, the wind is alternately behind you and hindering your progress from the front, which can feel quite draining, but I was delighted to end up with a half marathon PB from this run!

The medal was racetrack themed and the t-shirt was handily a bright yellow, ready for me to use in my winter training on dark mornings / nights  :-)

I was a bit worried about doing a 5 lap Half Marathon as I've previously struggled with a lapped 10km, however it was actually really good to know exactly what the conditions would be for the next four laps and helped me to mentally prepare and also speed up on the downhill/back wind parts of the course in order to make up time on the more challenging parts! It was great to run past the start/finish area multiple times as the crowds were enthusiastic and there was a commentator and water station situated here. Marshalls were enthusiastic despite the weather and it was good to have loud encouragement and music halfway round the course as it can get lonely away from the spectators. Despite the bad weather, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and the race HQ was well organised with plenty of space for runners and spectators to shelter from the rain. The pop-up shops were great as it provided a chance to 'try before you buy' from brands that only sell online. There was plenty of snacks and hot/cold drinks available to purchase, free pre- and post-race massages, and the goodie bags were good quality - water, bananas, protein balls, jelly beans, etc. The medal is unique - ties in with the motoring theme - and it's always nice to get a finishers' tee included!! The only downside I found was the lack of briefing before the race start. Email correspondence before the day was good, but a verbal reminder, especially on a lapped course, would have been helpful at the start line. Although not the cheapest, I would recommend this race to anyone as it is relatively flat and fast, the course is unique and the 12 o'clock start time meant no super early wake up! I would definitely consider returning.

It was a road half marathon in laps. I don't generally do this type of race but I gave it a go. Weather wasn't great so you were very exposed out on the course. Parking was good although it wasn't well signposted until you were at the car park. There were pop up shops which was good but they could have had more food and drink sellers. There were few places to keep out of the elements, luckily we gate crashed the run mummy run section. It was 5 laps for the half marathon and you started half way round the course. It could have done with some kind of entertainment such as band eat round the course as there was nobody expect Marshalls until you came back to the stadium start line where spectators were. The half marathon also started last so you had minimal spectators hanging around mainly because of the weather I expect.perhaps they could start the half first next time as the field becomes pr try spread out so it wouldn't really impact on the 10 km race or the children's race.. Medal and t shirt and goody bag were of good quality. It would have been nice to have a different medal or ribbon for each of the distances . All in all a good inaugural race .

A great event on the Goodwood motor circuit. I have to admit it was a bit boring to complete 5 laps of the same track to cover the half marathon distance but it was great to see the people cheering each lap in the pit-stops despite the cold windy weather. Because of the laps, it means we could pass the water station 5 times too. The location was easy to find and had plenty of parking just outside of the circuit with marshals in place. No problems at the start and we didn't have to queue up too long to go to the toilet (usually a problem in many events). The goodie bag and the t-shirt were also nice. There were a good number of pacers available too.

There were instructions for drivers but not for those arriving on public transport. There were no taxis at the station but we got lucky and there was a bus going to the nearby horse racing track that gave us a lift. I ended up walking back to the station after the race - which wasn't great because parts of the route didn't have pavement and the weather was foul. There may have been a better walking route so a few more details for non-drivers would be good. The course was 5 times round the circuit. I think the organisers were very enthusiastic and the surface was great for running. I wish I had done the 10k run earlier on the same route because the weather was awful and for parts of the circuit we were running into the wind and then it would be behind us and the nature of the circuit with the airfield in the middle meant we were very exposed. I would have been fine running the circuit a couple of times in the wind and rain. But 5 times round the same circuit knowing what was to come began to get a bit wearing. The medal, tee-shirt and goodie bag were great and the supporters who were in the grandstand were great. Great course for a 10k. I think for the half marathon it would be good if it meandered beyond the circuit and explored further to give it a bit more interest.

This was a great race and I think went very well, given it was the first race set here. PROS - Lots of parking - Great medal* - Pop up shops from brands like Runr - Proper toilets!! (always exciting at a race) - Good goodie bag - Free massage CONS - * It would have been good to have a different medal for different distances (or at least a different ribbon) - No on course toilets. Admittedly impossible on this course but would put some people off! - I wasn't overly impressed by the official photography. Ben Lumley's stuff was great as usual but I think he was there for PR, not the actual race photos. Somebody like Sussex Sport Photography would be good for another year. I would also have included a 12 noon start time on the Cons list but for the 2019 race I think they've moved it to 1000. All in all this is a race I'd definitely recommend.

Running a 5 and a half lap Half Marathon isn't something I'd normal enjoy but doing it at a motor circuit made it a very unique experience. If you want to experience what it was like then check out my vlog on YouTube: https://youtu.be/xsY8ZuXJsCw We were unfortunate with the weather (it was wet and windy) but we didn't let that dampen our spirits. The crowd support and water station was along the finishing straight. Each lap was pretty flat and normally you'd be able to keep a consistent pace but on this occasion the wind slowed us down for about half the lap and was really calm for the other half. There wasn't mcuh of an event village and very limited food options which wasn't great given that we arrived during the morning for a noon start time. The changes planned for next year all sound really positive and should help this event to improve and build upon a good first year.

I thought this race was great (helped getting a PB) but there were a few things that could have been better. The half marathon course was flat and you went round the race track 5 times. On one bend you got the full force of the wind as the track is very exposed to the elements. Parking was easy as the venue is used to holding events, this also meant there were enough toilets without having to queue for ages. The crowd were in the pit lane and you only went past them once every lap, the rest of of the time you were on your own. For the first time I ran with a pacer and we were in a good group, which kept everyone company. The pacer was great and would recommend running in a small group. The event wasn't overly busy and as the crowds were small and just in the pit lane, you were able to concentrate on your running and just get on with it, enjoying the race. While the medal looks great, I thought it would have been better if it said the race distance you completed, rather than a generic medal for all the races on the day (Family Race, 10k and half marathon). The t-shirt was also a little snug, even in a large. Overall I enjoyed the race and the occasion, I didn't think I would rush back to do it again, but have seen they have moved the event from October to July. This should help with the crowds and the atmosphere, and I think I will sign up for next year!

There was good contact from the organisers beforehand, I changed from the HM to the 10k, it was simple and quick. The bag drop was fairly quick. There's a reasonable amount of toilets at the venue, so not too many queues. There were a few decent stalls at the site, though not many food ones. This was my only issue - £7 for a coffee and a (very poor) hot chocolate is ridiculous - hope they get some different food/drink stalls next time. It's quite a strange start - about 15 minutes before the race started everyone walked halfway around the track to the start point. This was ok for warming up and there was a great atmosphere. There was a lot of room on the track and it was easy to stay by your pacer. The 10k was 2.5 laps, I though it might be a bit boring but the scenery was actually quite nice. Not shore if I'd want to do the HM option though. The weather was pretty wet and windy with some hail, but there was at least some cover for the spectators. Passing the finish point was great as there was great support here (and also from the marshals on the course). Everything was smooth and well organised at the finish. There was a small goody bag, some drinks and snacks, and a great medal and T shirt. The car park (for entry and exit) was a bit busy but nothing too drastic. All in all, an excellent race, well organised. Not sure if I'll be free to do next year (in July next time), but would recommend it.
