← Yorkshire Marathon

Yorkshire Marathon is another great RunForAll event. Race had full marathon or 10 mile option, so it catered for differing abilities. Marathon runners set off at 9:30 with 10 mile runners departing at 10:15. HQ was at York University. Registration and baggage deposit/collection all ran very smoothly. I didn't use the park & ride but my friend said it worked perfectly well. Weather was utterly terrible with very heavy rain throughout the day. Even so, there was still a good atmosphere at the event village, with an MC keeping everybody entertained. Marathon started at the university, went through city centre, past the iconic York Minster and then into the beautiful countyside, before returning to the finish line which was at the University. Course featured a couple of out-and-backs which aren't to everybody's liking but there was decent support on this section which always helps when the going gets tough. It's also a nice place for spectators to see friends and family twice. The crowd support was unbelievable, considering the atrocious weather. I can't thank them enough. Course was fast & flat with plenty of PB potential with only a couple of minor hills to navigate and nice downhill sections to enjoy. The Water stations were plentiful and contained bottled water, energy drinks and gels. Final section saw a hill to run up before a nice downhill sprint to the finish. Runners were rewarded with a solid medal, quality tech shirt, decent goodie bag and a foil sheet to keep the cold at bay. Marshal support throughout was absolutely brilliant. Massive thanks to them. In summary - This is the third time I've done this event. I keep coming because this marathon has everything you'd want. It's a flat, fast course, has a top notch medal and quality finishers shirt. Finisher's bag is decent too. Runners get looked after with Erdinger alcohol free lager, medal engraving and massage which are all FREE of charge. If you break it down, it's good value for money. I have to mention the crowd support again - it was magnificent. Thanks for a brilliant day. I'll certainly be back in 2019.
