Run Reigate is a fixture on the calendar for me - always brilliantly organised, well supported by locals, feverishly enthusiastic marshalling, a beautiful and challenging (undulating with one major bump!) route and top goodies (medal, t-shirt, buff etc). I'll be back next year, but... ...for the first time, I couldn't help feeling a small pang of disappointment. It's a tiny gripe but things just seemed a tiny bit 'less' this year compared to previously. The medal was fine rather than great, the start was a bit chaotic and difficult to get near to the appropriate pacers (if that's your thing), gels at halfway were replaced with Jelly Babies (preference I guess). Am I being picky? Yes! If this was my first experience of this race, it would have been a very good one. Will I be back in 2019? Yes! Run Reigate remains a great race and I hope that the wonderful team who put it together can make the tweaks they have probably already identified for themselves to put it back to its award winning best!
