← Swim Serpentine

The 3rd and final instalment of my London Classics journey and it didn't disappoint. This was my first swim only event and I really enjoyed it, just a shame the sun couldn't have made an appearance! I took on the 2mile swim in order to get my London Classics medal and enter the London Classics Hall of Fame. The swim consisted of 2 laps of the Serpentine in Hyde Park. Not the best quality water, but wasn't too bad. The course is well marked with plenty of buoys and safety is taken seriously with lots of kayaks out and you have to check in and out of the water with your chip so they know you're ok! As a big event, I was expecting carnage at the beginning of the swim and lots of overcrowding, but this was far from the case. Each wave is set off 1hr apart and the wave soon spreads out so you're not being dunked or pulled under, you surprisingly have a fair amount of space early on! Coming out of the water you can hop into one of the many hot tubs if you want (no wetsuits allowed) which was very welcome as I was pretty chilly when I finished. You then make your way to collect your medal or medals in my case(!) before heading into the changing tent. The medals are great and the London Classics medal is a beauty, more like a medallion! Highly recommend the event and especially to those who've already done the other 2 London events. Well organised and easy to get to.
