Knowing I was travelling up from Essex to Nottingham over this weekend I was looking for a race a couple of months ago and came across the Shrewsbury Half.  The reviews of the 2017 race enticed me to enter and make the detour.

I am really glad I did.  The organisation was great, yes the parking was busy but the website instructions said to get there for 7:30 which I did and found I was parked without any delay. The car park is only a short distance from start line so that was good.

The actual race was a good challenge, a nice mix of town and countryside with some sneaky, sharp inclines in the town and a long drag in the countryside.  Good support in the town but what was best of all was the closed road aspect...it really was great having the freedom of the road and no worry of traffic, giving the race a real feel of importance.

The whole event had a real positive feel and I’d really recommend it to anyone.  Nice medal, t shirt and the pro photos included in the price sealed the deal.  Top stuff.
