I’m a first time marathon runner and what better course to tackle than London. 

I got a ballot place and essentially started a couch to marathon training programme. 

The race itself is so amazing, right from the start. The atmosphere and buzz in the pens was unreal. The only downside of the start for me would be the time stood in the baking heat before we crossed the start line, 45 mins + for my pen. 

As soon as I got going I was in awe of the amount of support on the course, people were everywhere. Music, bands, cheering and more jellybeans than you can eat! 

The course is brilliant, through communities and past the cutty sark were special. Crossing London Bridge was quite spectacular. 

The heat was taking a toll and people were suffering along the course but plenty of water was available and the showers were a great help. 

All in all a brilliant first marathon experience and I’m currently planning my next!
