← Run Gatwick

This was the inaugural Run Gatwick half marathon and is was a very good event that I would recommend. A couple of issues that I suspect will be addressed next year. My overall observations were:

+ve

  • The organisation was very good, I signed up relatively late (managed to miss a £5 discount code - doh!) yet my race pack arrived in time
  • Tne race village was excellent and the British Airways sponsorship certainly added to what was on offer, lots of great stalls plus loads of fun stuff for big and little kids
  • The course was flat save for one hill at mile 9 and was a nice blend of running out from Southgate Park through the town then out to the outlying villages with the bonus of planes landing and taking off (also liked the fun mile markers that provided distances to some exotic locations) then back into town returning to the park
  • The crowds were well spread out but they gave great support
  • Water stations with bottles are always a winner in my books and there was plenty on offer

  • The perennial race problem of bag checks reared it’s head and large queues formed pre-race that caused unnecessary stress - thankfully the pick up was very slick
  • Another common issue is the number of portaloos, again large queues pre-race were also causing some anxiety
