← MK Marathon Weekend

I ran the half as a replacement for the Bath Half after it was cancelled thanks to the Beast from the East.

Booking onto the race was nice and easy and my race number/chip and info was received in plenty of time.

We missed out on booking a parking space at the stadium but instead booked the park and walk as we're not local to Milton Keynes and didn't know where else to park. I would NEVER do that again. The walk was long which was ok for me but for the 2 smallest children was a long way and I'm not sure I would manage it in the 20 mins suggested. It was also a fairly nasty back route fine in the large numbers who were doing it on the day on the way in but I wouldn't have been so keen on the Walk back.

Inside the stadium was a bit chaotic and some simple maps outside the stadium showing where things were set out would have made it all easier as I had family members doing the fun run who needed to collect numbers as well.

The route was good and for the first 6 miles you run with the marathon runners which is fab. After this the route was also nice through parks instead of the main roads of Milton Keynes. The local support and marshals were amazing.

For me the downside were the staff/marshals in the stadium who were very officious verging on rude - out on the course and at the start they were lovely and just fab. Also it was 25C and the water stations were every 3 miles which was just too far apart given the heat, even though they have out bottles of water to keep with you 3 miles was too long until the next one.

Finishing in the stadium was amazing and the finishers t shirt and medal are brilliant. Loads and loads of photos taken too and put on Flickr.

Overall a decent race that could be made better by some really simple organisational things on the day.
