← TCS London Marathon

London Marathon is perhaps one of greatest road races in the world as it weaves its way through different areas of London, finally passing Buckingham Palacw before finishing in The Mall. The support from spectators is amazing and keeps you going throughout the race - there is constant cheering and bands etc along the course.

The 2018 race was the hottest on record which presented all the runners with a significant challenge especially as training had been completed in very cold conditions. It also seemed to be an issue in terms of organisation as 3 consecutive water stations ran out of water which is poor eclectically as the weather was forecast. The organisers trialled cups at a couple of stations this year and while I personally don’t like cups it also meant the road at these areas was full of pulp which was not great for the runners behind.

As a slightly slower runner it was also a disappointment that they had run out of all the smaller t-shirt sizes at the end and so finishers had to accept sizes larger than they needed. Although there was still a couple of hours of finish time left when I finished, it did feel as if they were starting to pack up which again is a shame.

Overall though, this is an amazing marathon however the organisers could still benefit from a few teeaks to give all runners a great experience.
