← London Landmarks Half Marathon

I was one of the lucky ones who gained a place in the race as soon as they went on sale. The fact that places sold out in 15 minutes means it is likely to be a ballot for futures events.

The race was well organised and my running number, instructions, race t-shirt and kit bag were sent out around a week before the event so no registration was required.

The race had made a great effort to entertain runners and spectators with on course bands, cheer squads and signs pointing out the unique and quirky landmarks on the route. They also had children's treasure hunts and short walking history tours at various points near the route to keep spectators busy.

I loved the route. It seemed to go past many of London's major landmarks and for me was a great warm up for the London Marathon in a few weeks - getting me experience of parts of the route and the crowds. Although not the size on the marathon crowds, support on route was excellent.

At the end of the race there was an unusual medal (it opened up), a bottle of water and a cereal bar. Various historical characters, Chelsea Pensioners and Pearly Kings and Queens presented the medals, which was a nice touch.

I had a couple of minor compliants about the organisation which are probably due to it being the inaugural event:

1.We received a email the day before the race advising that if we thought we would need the toilet before the race to use a public toilet if possible as toilets would be limited! Surely race organisers know that people want to use the loo at least twice in the hour before a race. For my second "visit", the queues were so long that I ended up joining a shorter 10 minute queue in a nearby Weatherspoons.

2. The 6 mile drink station had run out of Lucozade by the time I arrived (I didn't think I was particularly slow - 2.26)

3. The start was a bit chaotic - people were divided into coloured start waves but there was no seperation of waves at the start so it was a free for all with different paced runners starting together.

I would love to do the race again
