← Leeds & Liverpool Canal Canter

I did this event last year so knew what to expect.

This race covered all distances from 5k to Ultra, so suited all abillities.

I chose the ultra option (32.5miles-ish).

Registration was at a local social club, 5minutes from start line.

There was a nice pre-race atmophere.

Race numbers were collection only. It was slightly more congested than usual, which resulted in a delayed start to the race.

Baggage store directly was next to the start line.

Race set off in waves with Ultra, 10k and 5k runners setting off 10 minutes after the Half and full marathon runners.

It was a little bit congested for the first half mile but soon got easier as the field spread out.

Route of all races were out & back, on canal side

Paths were genrally flat and smooth. Overall, it's a fast course with plenty of PB opportunities.

Nature of the course means local support was minimal but runners were able to support each other so that wasn't an issue.

Aid stations were regular and contained plenty to keep the runners fuelled and hydrated.

Finishers were rewarded with a decent medal, beer and chocolate. There was also plenty of home baked cakes, including vegan option.

I actually recieved an aditional trophy for finishing 2nd in the Ultra. Lovely touch. It really made my day.

One main difference from last year was the introduction of chip timing. Previously, time had been manually recorded. Chip timing has to be a good thing.

Marshal support was absolutely first class.

Big thanks for that.

In summary-

Another awesome race from IGUN.

Lovely atmosphere and a special day.

Grim Up North races are good, honest, quality events and good value.

Got to mention the marshals again - heroes in my eyes.
