← TTP Cambridge Half Marathon

Very fast and very flat course through Cambridge and out to Granchester to the south of the city. Lots of support for the first and last 3 miles through the centre of Cambridge but much less as you venture out of Cambridge. The race is run on closed roads but for a lot of it only half of the road is closed. This might have been ok in a small race but when ~3000 runners start in the first wave it made the first 5 miles very congested. I’d like to see the roads fully closed to spread the race out.

Given the weather in the run up to the race the organisers did well to get it on, although I can’t imagine how long it will take for Midsummer common to recover!

My major issue with the race is the cost. It cost £36 plus extra for a top, or park and ride or even to get your race number posted out. I appreciate that big city races are expensive but it seems very expensive given that you could run Boundary run the following weekend for a third of the cost! That being said, they sell out 9000 places in 5 days so I don’t see if changing.

Whilst this race will always have a special place in my heart as my first and possibly onl sub 90, I don’t think I’ll be back (even though it is only 6 miles from my front door to the start) as it is too expensive for what it offers.
