← Run Reigate Half Marathon,10K,5K & Kids

This was my first half marathon and it's really hard to fault.

The race starts and finishes in Priory Park in Reigate. I was fortunate enough to be able to park my car at a friend's house within walking distance but there was plenty of parking provided by local businesses, with a small fee going to charity.

The atmosphere was great from the moment I arrived at the event village. It's worth arriving early to have a look around.

The inspirational Dame Kelly Holmes started both the 10K and Half Marathon. There was plenty of opportunities for high fives and shelfies with her.

The course makes it's way out of Reigate up Cockshot Hill. Before you know it you are into the countryside and running along country lanes away from Reigate. At the half way mark the route turns around and heads back towards Reigate along the A217. Other than Cockshot Hill at the start, the rest of the route is fairly flat, that is until the final mile when you reach Park Lane. This has a steep hill that you need to save some energy for. It's steep but it doesn't last too long and once you get to the top it's all downhill towards Priory Park and the finish.

There were plenty of water stations along the route, providing small bottles of water. The runners were met by great support from local residents and plenty of cheering during the final couple of hundered metres in Priory Park. The reward at the end was a nicely designed medal, tech t shirt, buff and a banana. Personally I felt the tech t shirt design wasn't great and I've not worn it much since but the buff has had alot of use this winter.

Overall it was a great day and a great experience. So glad that I picked Run Reigate for my first half marathon. Will I be back next year? Too right, I booked up as soon as the early bird entries were released :-)
