← TTP Cambridge Half Marathon

First time running this race.. was told to arrive 90 minutes early to allow for queue times and getting to the race village. We used the park and ride which was pretty much empty at the time we parked, meaning we got there alittle too earlier than expected. The weather was COLD and rainy, there is no cover from the elements on the green where the race village was situated at. There were not many vendors at the event either so there wasnt many places to get a hot drink if you were waiting a long time.

Unfortunately, the race organisers really F'ed up on the organisation of the baggage area and the queues were massive. it meant that we had to get rid of our coats and bags earlier to allow for queue times, meaning I stood in a tshirt in the rain and wind for much more time than I should have needed to.

By the time the race started, it was a bit of a bottleneck and the starting pens on the grass was really boggy and trashed! it took a long while to warmup after finally getting running.

The course itself goes through parts of the city centre, some which felt like it was alittle unsafe as we were running with traffic on the other side, cars trying to cross the course to get into side roads despite it apparently being a closed road course, sometimes only seperating us and the cars by some cones and a rope. Not ideal.

The route does loop through some lovely parts of cambridge which had good support. It's a fast flat course and i was able to get a PB.

Thankfully, upon finishing, my faster partner had already been to baggage collection, but when I got back the queues were horrendous. There was also no place to change out of wet clothes into something warmer.

Medal was epic for this race, nice and big for those that like that sort of bling.

Despite the weather and the bad organisation of the baggage area, I will be doing this race again next year(and hope that they make some improvements!)
