← UTS Hoylake 10k

This was my second 10K, after recently doing Wirral 10K. It was lovely to running along the Wirral coast at the Hoylake end, after having enjoyed the New Brighton side very much.

This race was very friendly and the organisation was excellent. We were lucky with the weather and, in fact, the start of autumn is a lovely time for a run in this location. As a race novice, it was exciting to see that some very fast people also choose to include this event in their race calendar.

The 11am start was welcome, as were the toilets. There was also plenty of room to congregate, wait and chat before and after the race at the start/finish. Most of the race is on concrete/tarmac with some grass and track also. The grass and track sections are quite even underfoot, but there are some steps and corners where you have to take extra care.

According to my watch, my previous 10K race had fallen marginally short of the full 10K distance. This was by so little that it was probably due to the line I had taken at corners. I was, as a result, really looking forward to getting my first race time for a full 10K at Hoylake and was sorry that this course appeared to be over 300m short. Nevertheless, my overall impression of the event was was very high and I would like to do it again. Next time, I might not run the extra distance beyond the funnel to make up the 10K; by then I hope to have run 10K many times and to be more nonchalant about the full distance :)
