← Kew Charity Richmond 10K River Run

I'd class this race as distinctly average and probably wouldn't recommend it. There are better organised races with better facilities and bling for less money around (the Chase the Sun series for starters).

Pros

  • Flat course
  • Quite a pretty course
  • Chip timing
  • Haribo at the end
  • Medal (although this is also a Con as it's incredibly boring)
  • Easy number collection

Cons

  • Water in cups! And half filled cups at that. One poor marshall struggling to (half) fill said cups.  Very poor for a 10k race.
  • No pre race briefing to talk of and no warm up
  • Only five portaloos so the eventual queue was huge
  • The path that the majority of the race is on (out and back) is shared with the public which made for some slow points when you needed to overtake people but couldn't because of people coming the other way.
  • It looks like it's going to be a pretty race but for much of it you can't see the river, and then there's a strange loop around a playing field. Bad memories of school cross country!

In short, I know it was for charity but £22 is pretty steep for a fairly poor quality race.
