← Gower Sprint Triathlon

If you want an easy race to get to that is supper flat & fast then this is not for you but if its a unique, challeging and picturesque race then the Gower Sprint could be the one.

A little beach side village with camping a couple of hundred metres from transition and registration makes it an ideal Triathlon and a weekend away  with friends & family. Lots of families and couples appeared to be racing.

A sea swim which is a simple out and back, good weather so it was fast but i believe a little short only 700m according to my garmin. A rocky exit onto the beach and then a run up the sand into T1. Weather was good so a straight forward swim

Bike begins with a climb out of the village, pretty steep and certainly an killer on the legs. The course is rolling with not many flat sections and ther is another tough climb during the first half of the course but that is followed by a long quick decent, just watch for the sheep. the course is very honest and very difficult for people to draft. The country lanes make it difficult to go flat out as its not closed roads (4/5 for Navigation) but the marshals were plentiful. Course measured 24km.

The run is a mix of a beach run and off road. With the tide, prepare for wet feet and energy sapping soft sand. Run was short at about 4.7km.

Crowd support in the village was great, The marshals were great and very supportive right until the end. There was water avialable on the run. No finishers medal, we received a visor which was great for me but not for people doing their first event.

Summary: Not expensive to enter £40. Got a visor which will be useful, Jelly Babies :) and a beach party on Saturday night so whats not to like. I would race again as I think every race will be different depending on the weather and its tough and interesting.
