Very well organized race, but as with most races in Japan this one also was wetsuit mandatory. The irony here is that the rule is based on safety reasons, despite the water being around 28 degrees with air temperature of 35. With no other option than to DNS I started the race in my full wetsuit, pontun start great - petrol smelling water not so great - and overheated within the first 200m. Had to stop and let water in the suit in order to cool down a bit and considered abandoning but found the will to move fwd. That set me up for a terrible race from then on as I found it impossible to cool down my core temperature. Great venue right in the middle of Yokohama, course slightly different to the elites but still pretty good. Just be prepared for a super hot and humid race if its anywhere around the start or even mid Sep (think sep 16th in 2011) and bring a short sleeve suit.
