Enjoyed this race. Lovely water for the swim, enjoyed the bike course, run course was a little tedious and didn't much enjoy the uneven grass sections, but overall a nice race and I would happily return, with one possible caveat. The one thing that let it down a little was the aid stations. On the bike leg there was a 'self-service' water station. To take on water on the bike would have meant stopping and filling my bottle from a barrel of water. I know this is a middle distance race, and so not as fast as some of the shorter races, but all the same, anyone trying to achieve a time is not going to want to stop to fill up a bottle. I am not especially fast, but I was trying to beat 3 hours for the bike. I could happily have grabbed a bottle on the way past, but stopping, getting off and filling a bottle would have scuppered my chances. This was only my fourth middle distance tri, but it is this first middle distance tri I have done that has not handed out bottles on the bike leg. On the run sections there were 2 aid stations on the 4-lap course, so we passed a station every 1.5 miles or so. One of the aid stations had water and gels, one had just water. All good. I would really have appreciated some electrolytes on the aid stations though. It was a hot day, I was slightly under-watered because I didn't want to stop to fill a bottle on the bike course and some electrolytes would have helped a good deal. Again, I think this is the only middle distance tri I have done that has not had some sort of electrolytes at the aid station. It may seem like a petty niggle, but not handing out bottles of water on the bike leg is the sort of thing that would put me off returning. Generally, a really nice race in a really nice place, but I will delay entering for next year until more details are published about what the aid stations will look like.
