← Ironman 70.3 Kronborg

This is by far the most scenic race I have completed. I you wanted to it would be possible just to sight see around the entire course and that includes the majority of the swim.

Elsinore is an easy place to reach from the UK, fly into Copenhagen then an easy train ride to the city and with a central city race hub all the administration is really easy.

The swim was a rolling start which works for some but not others. There are still problems with over seeding and people thinking they are fish in the water, I seeded at 29 mins (swan 28:50)and spent the first 1000m passing people. As its such a tight swim course in the harbour you have to be agressive I'm afraid or you just cant swim. The swim course could worry people with so many turns but as long as you are not 1st its easy enough to spot where to go and you can almost touch the spectators at some points - very surreal.

The bike is quick, very quick with lots of turns in great countryside. It keeps things interesting and if you get bored on this course then there is something wrong with you. Its a one lap course with sporadic support through the country side but with marshals at every turn you couldnt get lost. There was the usual problem with drafting and packs of riders were all over the place, there were marshalls out but not sure how many penalties issued. It's quick coming into T2 which is a nice way to get the legs going.

The run is 3.5 laps around the harbour, castle and town. Its very twisty with minimal long straights so keeps in interesting. Great support throughout and its always fun running through town when people are drinking and eating. The run is over various surfaces but even the cobbles are not to bad.

Post race the showers were cold (Ok it was a really hot day but they were ice cold) and the food/drink options were the worst at an IM event I have had (Burger which was lovely, coke, redbull, water and Erdinger). The Medal is great with a bit of Shakespear.

Really good race, very well organised and suitable for 70.3 novices to experienced alike.
