← Evans Cycles King Of The Downs

Completing this ride last year i got completely drenched so i am do glad this year the sun was shining :)

Its a nice early start, 6am but this year i didnt start until 7am so a lie in bed for me.

Breakfast is available but I chose to have mine at home but you could have beans on toast, cereal, jam on toast etc with plenty of tea and coffee.

The first half off the ride is fairly steady and no hills that are really a struggle, Box hill is a pleasure and one to enjoy and savour the views.

Stopped at feed station on 50 miles and stocked up, energy bars and gels and cake and fluids with option of high 5.

the East loop is a bit more hilly than the first Kidds hill is a nice gentle hill that warms you up and certainly gets your lungs burning.

The worst hill is hill 10 Titsey Hill when you have gone past the last feed station and close to 100 miles and its the last thing you want but the satisfaction of getting up the last hill i just cant describe.

Now its just about riding back to Crawley to pick up my medal and my hot dog which to be honest i wouldnt feed to my dog it was that horrible.

The only downer for me on this ride the really poor signage, after a few sharp decents there were no pre warnings of a left or right turn coming up just a PINK arrow at the turning which if you cycle quick you will miss and we did a few times, which could be dangerous if you suddenly stopped to turn around.

Also the garmin GPX file was uselss and didnt advise on turns coming up etc so i couldny rely on this what so ever. :(
