← Rock n Roll Liverpool

I completed the Liverpool marathon for the first year, and this year I paced the sub 4 #funbus

you can see more about my full experience as a pacer in my blog:

Firstly this is a whole weekend of running and the medals are great. You can end up picking up 5/6 medals at this event for running three races. I only have experience at the marathon, and my wife kirsty, will be reviewing the 5k.

This ticks all the boxes for value for money. It's not an expensive event, it's well organised, you get a quality medal and tee and a beer token.

parking at the start of the event was simple, with  carpark literally at the start line.

Aid stations were well staffed and had water and lucazade in bottles. The only issue I had here was it was sportscaps which is great but in some places marshalls removed the lids. This meant the lucazade got messy and you couldn't run with it, which was annoying. This is not the organisers fault, more great marshalls trying to be helpful but getting it wrong on this occasion. No big deal, but something for the volunteers briefing for next year.

The course was good, more hilly in places than I expected. Spectators stayed around the centre so there were many points without any real support. There were also a couple of places that the mile markers were in the wrong place. Most notably the half way point was long. This evened out, but it can be off putting for people aiming for certain times.

There was a tracker in place so loved ones could see you on the course, but there were not many timing matts. The way the course runs I would expect more, as there are opportunities for people to cheat.

The course ends with a 3 mile (atleast) stretch along the Mersey, this was against a head wind, but pancake flat.

I really enjoyed the event, a great atmosphere and a new regular on my marathon calendar. Even if I wasn't pacing I would be back next year.
