← Brighton Marathon

A good, varied course with a few inclines in the first half to keep you focussed ! With the exception of the trek out to the power station the race was enthusiastically supported throughout, with big crowds in many places and lots of cheering and encouragement. Brighton seems to really embrace this event

It was an unexpectedly hot day and with practically no shade along the route meant this was a real challenge. The heat led to the well documented problems with water at many of the aid stations, something that can be easily addressed next time round, but could have had serious consequences.

In the interest of constructive criticism my other observations were:

1. there were too many people on the course over the last two seafront miles, tired runners having to dodge around people seemingly oblivious to the race going on around them.

2. The exit!! After picking up medal, t-shirt, water etc. there is long walk, past the back pickup area, to the exit. ( there should be a quicker way out for those that don't have a bag to get.) then a long, tough battle through crowds of people through the event village to the exit - this is not what you need after running 26.2 miles - this really needs to be changed to allow runners a simpler and less hectic way to exit the event.

in summary a very good, well supported event, that a couple of organisational changes could make even better.
