← Portland Coastal Marathon

Having raced the half for the last 2 years, I decided that its time to do the marathon.

You have to have the following kitlist.

NO KIT = NO NUMBER, NO RESULT, NO REFUND.

Drink container(s) of 500ml capacity or greater.

Windproof jacket - waterproof is advisable

Emergency nutrition (a gel, energy bar, some sweets, etc.)

Head covering (hat, multi-use covering, hood)

Mobile phone, waterproofed in a bag, charged, on, and with volume up

Foil blanket or full-sized bin liner

Whistle

SMALL First aid kit, including tape (micropore, zinc oxide, flexible, or similar) plasters blister plasters small wound dressing (absorbent pad with a gauze bandage)

Also I reccomend good off road shoes for this race.

Ok here is my bit.

This is not a standard 'easy' road marathon so get some zone 2 off road training runs done. The run is tough from start to finish, I had a goal but deceided that as long as I make it before the 6 hour cut off I'd be happy. Within the first mile we had to climb 400ft, up a slippey hill with a little bit of grip I got up pretty speedy and did the first mile in 11 mins, see I said it was tough. One by one the miles went by and I didnt check my watch till the halfway turnaound point. I met my mum at this point, got a bit more fuel and said I'd be hitting a 5:30 time. I forgot to say the route was clockwise then at the halfway point you turnaround and retrace your route back to the finish.
