← Downslink Ultra

It was my first Ultra it was ideal for me as it's local. It's a point to point 38 mile race along a disused railway line so it's lovely and quiet, traffic free There was an option of being collected at the finish by mini bus to take you to the start so your car is at the end.
The start is well marshelled and plenty of car parking with toilets. Easy registration and a bag drop off. Walk to the start is up to the top of a hill. First few miles is all down hill on very narrow paths then flattens out to an undulating route taking in the countryside of Sussex until you see the River Arun. Good postitioning of feed stations on route, just a shame they lacked in choice of food, especially for us slower runners as a lot had gone by time I came through, luckily I had good support about half way and I sent them off for food for me!
I luckily recce the route from start to finish in training, good job as there was a few points I had to shout at competitors taking the wrong route!
It's a tough course on a lot of  stoney ground, mostly tree covered route.
Finish was at Shoreham by Sea  with a homemade Chilli waiting,  cups of tea or water.
Unfortunatly the showers were not working which were stated in our race details would be, in fact it's a sink!  Basic T shirt and a small Medal. Bit disappointing after all that jogging ... it's for the bling right?
