The inaugural Ironbourne was by no means perfect, showing some teething problems but it has bags of potential to be the best Long distance triathlon in the UK.

The swim starts with a jump off the pier which makes it incredibly unique. If navigated properly the swim is a PB dead cert. The course layout is good and the aussie exit halfway is a good breather! All in all, the swim was brilliant with glass-like conditions and pleasant temperatures.

The run out to T1 was well done with carpeting leading off the beach onto grass.

There was initial concern that large portions of the bike was on the A22/A27. Early on in the morning the roads were pretty quiet which makes for a blistering 1st 40-50 miles or so. The winding back roads on the course slows down the pace a bit with some sections having really bad road surfaces. The aid stations were really well manned with incredible volunteers.

The run is sensational being run completely on the promenade in laps. Support is unreal with locals and visitors alike cheering all athletes on. Aid stations were amazing and well stocked with some having volunteers with hoses to cool you down.

Overall the event was brilliant but it had its teething problems. There were a few orginisational errors but it should be expected in its 1st iteration.

It would have been nice to have a finishers area where you could wind down and have something to eat and drink.
