← Oundle 20 Mile, 10k & 5k

Fantastic event 2nd time around.

I was previously a bit unfair on this race - i did it as a last minute alternative training for Manchester last year, when i wasnt running well and found it really challenging and therefore didnt enjoy the course.

This year it fell perfectly for London but unfrortuantely that was cancelled a couple of days before. Like most who turned up on race day, marathons were cancelled and in effect the tough first 20 miler on the training plan had become the A-race for the spring. Therefore a bit of a strange atmosphere.

Logisitics were good and easy to park around the schoolsite with short walk. Straightforward start and although windy and a bit wet, the race went well. The scenery and the small villages in particular were much prettier than i remembered and there was a good sense of camaraderie between the runners. All volunteers were fantastic and very encouraging and the last couple of km back into Oundle were great. Only minor grumble is that literally the last 50m of the race are onto the playing fields with a slight bend which became very muddy and skiddy- having ran the whole race on roads it was a bit disappointing to have to clean my trainers which were covered in mud.

Great medal and tee, bars, bananas and drinks after the race. It seems like nearly everyone from the race was in McDonalds in the services up the road after.

Would highly recommend for a spring marathon.
