← Plain Crazy

Plain Crazy is a 12 1/2 mile trip around Warminster Plain. It starts at Pepper Place near the army base, where you run on road for the first mile until you meet a series of muddy off-road tractor tracks that are very uneven and slipperly. This goes on for 3/4 of a mile until you meet a giant grass/mud hill which you have to climb (again this can be very tricky if wet). Once you hit the top you are then led to run around the plains for an 8 mile loop back to the start.

It is mostly hard gravel & country roads which is suited best for road trainers. I wore my off-road shoes which was a little mistake, as it only really benifited me running up the hill and tracks early on, road shoes would have been better on the legs for the last 8 miles, certainly.

I did quite enjoy this challage to be honest, but I did have thoughts during that if it was raining hard, this would've been tough run, espically on the mind.

The views are what you expect on army training area; fields, mud and an old tank.

Signage, I could only remember the arrows at the start and the mile markers during the race, I just made sure I could see someone in front. smiley The plain roads very much went in one direction.

Getting there was easy, parking was easy, collecting the number was well organised.

The race was clock timed, not chipped sadly.

Overall it did have a nice christmas feel to the race and they give you some mince pies for your efforts, the medal was good and aimed at the poppy legion. It is a good one if you want a challage over the festive season. But I would only recommend this to people who do have some race experince.

Thanks, Pip
