← Williams BMW Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K & Fun Run

Difficult review to write really, as I can see a lot of effort has gone into organising this event, but sadly I'd say it needs a few tweaks.

Registration/t-shirt collection in the town hall was quite chaotic - the room was too small for the number of people trying to get in and out and this was at a fairly early point.  Once you are done, it's better to head outside where there is more space, and I think the event team should encourage people to do this, rather than stand in the hallway/room making it difficult for others to circulate.

So, it's a road 10k on decent paths and roads throughout.  It's a lollipop 'with a big head' by which I mean the first and last ~1.5km are the same with a circular route in between.  The event probably isn't large enough for 'pens'  but as the first KM is narrow in places I think people should be encouraged to position themselves based on estimated finish time - perhaps some spaced flags along the start funnel?  As it was, there were slower runners/walkers inadvertently causing queues / blockages at 300m in on the first corner - it was quite a disorganised start.

Similarly on the sections along the canal, it is very narrow and there are only marshals at the points where you join and leave the canal - so when people are overtaking/passing it can get a bit hairy!

The 10km route was a bit of everything, a few town roads, some canal and then some paths through a small country park area, though not particularly pretty as this is flanked by a large industrial estate.  Apparently the 1/2 marathon route is much prettier, taking in Holingworth Lake.

Once people had spread out, the run improved a lot and the finish area was well supported with a lot of cheering spectators and event staff.  Medal, t-shirt & snacks for all finishers.
