← Wirral 10 Mile & 10Km

Another great BTR Liverpool event, the Wirral 10k. Start and finish on the New Brighton promenade near the Clown roundabout. This was a dual race event with a half marathon and 10k setting off at the same time. Both races did the first 9km together before the half marathon split off and headed further up the coast before doubling back.

What I've found with BTR events is that they are all so calm and relaxed! Plenty of toilets and these were being kept clean and refreshed all the time which is unusual. The day was spot on for a run .. light breeze, a bit of cloud now and again and not too warm. Ideal.

Race got off to a prompt start. We ran up to the Clown roundabout, along the road pass the retail park, shops and theatre before joining the promenade near the RNLI building. Ran down the promenade but didn't quite get to the ferry port. There was one "bump" along the way but otherwise the course was flat.

It was a bit difficult to know who you were running with as the half marathon people were mixed in with the 10kers so you had to run your own race.

Just after the 5km point was the turn around point and then the water station. Plenty of helpers handing out small bottles of water. It was then on up the promenade but this time when we got to the RNLI building the course changed and we headed for the beach. The route curved round towards Fort Perch and then headed left from there to join up the promenade. You'll have seen this bit of the promenade on the Channel 4 idents with the wheelchair races. It's a great wide promenade so plenty of space for walkers and runners. This took us back to the Clown roundabout where the course split into two, left for the 10kers and right for the half marathon folk.

The medal and t-shirt were nice but the goody bag was really good! Water, cans of street drinks, massage cream, vitamin drink, fibre tablets, protein bar, peanut butter sample and lentil crisps. Was wayed down by it all lol.

Apparently this year if you had run before and got a time, if you beat that time you got a PB medal as well so I'm definately up for trying that one next year.

I'm biased about this race as it's by the coast and I love to run by the coast. My best running is done there but you really should give this excellent event a go.

Highly recommended as are all BTR events I've done.
