← Durham City Run Festival

Ok, although I was an event ambassador for this run, I’ll give an honest review.

Unfortunately a couple of days before the race, there was a burst water main in the city. The route had to be changed, this wasn’t the organisers fault and they did their best to get a new route and keep the race on. It also meant both the 5k and 10k would be set off at the same time from the same start line. In past races this was a problem and last year they solved this issue with 2 startline and different start times.
On the night some people did complain about having to walk near the start due to congestion. I was near the front and the congestion was minimal.
The route took in different parts of Durham and yes some of it wasn’t the best views but it was the best the organisers could do. It was still a good challenge. Durham is hilly and the weather was warm and muggy.
There was great support on the course from locals and marshalls.
The course was well marked even when it was a bit loopy around the cricket ground.
Extra water stations were put in place with the warm weather and even a fire bridage shower curtain.
A great T-shirt and medal at the end. Also a decent goodie bag.
Instant text result service and free pictures are a great plus point.
Next year hopefully there won’t be any problems caused by external forces and the race can be back on the proper course and all will be good.
I would definitely recommend this race or the 5k, it’s a great challenge in a beautiful City.
