← Cursa de la Merce 10K

The Cursa de la Merce is a 10k run part of the “La Merce” city festival celebrating the end of the summer. It attracts approximately 14,000 runners each year, and is one of the most popular running events in the city costing only 5€ to enter. All the proceeds are donated to the chosen charities, such as Unicef and Unesco.

The race is chip timed, and you also get a T-shirt to wear for the race. There isn't a medal, but at 5€ which includes a technical T-shirt, who’s complaining!

The 10km route starts at Plaza Espana between the two Venetian towers, and the famous magic fountain. The course leads you through to the other side of the city passing several landmarks along the way. There wasn't a lot of crowd support, but the atmosphere is great and the runners encourage each other. Two water stops were available one at 5k and the second at approximately 8 km.

I would definitely do this race again, and what a great city to run in.
